1. Introduction to Year 9 Curriculum

At SSLSD, Year 9 is the foundation level of IGCSE programme and the students will select
subjects for the IGCSE examination according to their stream of preference (Science or
Commerce) in this grade.

Students are expected to study six common subjects along with three subjects of their
preferred stream. Out of the six common subjects, the students will discontinue studying
Qatar History when they enter year 10 and they can also choose Global Citizenship in place
of English Literature in year 10, if they wish to do so.
Also, the students will continue to study the iLower Seconday curriculum they started in
year 7 for the subjects: Mathematics and English in year 9 as well. They will switch to English
Language A /English as a Second Language and Mathematics A qualifications in year 10.

Students will sit English and Mathematics examinations of the Pearson iLower Secondary
Achievement Test in year 9.

Science stream: Commerce stream

Biology Accounting

Chemistry Economics

Physics Single Award Science

 Sinhala/French/Tamil will be offered as optional subjects taught after the regular
school hours and there should be minimum 5 students in order for the school to
commence the after school sessions for any of these subjects .
 It is compulsory that each student studies nine subjects (6 common subjects + three
subjects of their preferred stream) in year 9.
 If any student wishes to switch his/her major stream he/she is expected to do so
with in the first semester of year 9.
