3. Selecting Your Stream in Year 9

The decision that you make at this juncture is important for you to have a clear higher
education and career plan for a smooth passage from your school life to a happy
professional life. Since you are very much likely to continue with the stream you choose at
year 9, in your IAL as well as university courses, you should make a well-informed, and wise
decision. Your strengths and weaknesses, your interests, career aspirations as well as your
parents’ financial condition are some of the factors which will play a part in your decision.

Science Stream
Those who follow Science stream have many traditional as well as new career options
including Medicine, Bio Medicine, Engineering, Data Science, Computing, Artificial
Intelligence and many more. Also, Science steam students have the flexibility to switch to
Commerce stream at IAL or afterwards. However, you should understand that the higher
education in Science stream is comparatively more expensive than the Commerce stream.

Commerce Stream

Those who choose Commerce stream can also pursue highly paid and respected jobs like
investment banking, chartered accountant, company secretary, marketing manager and
financial advisor. Also, Commerce stream students have many higher education options
other than university education in the form of professional courses such as: ACCA, CIMA,
Chartered Accountancy etc.
